Water Heater No Longer Supplying Hot Water? What You Should Do

Blog

When your water heater stops working, you feel those effects. Your water heater supplies you with the hot water that wakes you up for your day every morning and the hot water that washes your dishes and your clothing. If your hot water heater isn't working properly or isn't supplying you with hot water at all, it's going to become a major problem in your household. Read on for some helpful information if your hot water heater has stopped supplying your home with hot water.

Check The Gas Line

The gas line in your home may not be turned on, or your hot water heater could have a gas leak. If your gas is turned off, you can simply turn it back on by turning on the valve near the hot water heater. If you have a gas leak though, you need to turn off the gas to your unit, and you should get out of your home, as a gas leak can lead to an explosion if you aren't careful. The next thing you need to do it so call your local natural gas company to have your gas line repaired and checked for other leaks as well.

Inspect The Thermostat

If the thermostat was turned down, it may lead to your unit not supplying you with any hot water. Look at the temperature that it is set to and adjust it if necessary to help improve the water temperature in your home. The thermostat may have been turned down accidentally, so make adjustments as needed. Don't turn it up too hot though, or you could risk burning yourself with the hot water.

Remove Sediment

Remove the sediment from the base of the water heater. Sediment can build up if you have hard water in your home. Hard water can cause calcium buildup, which can accumulate in the base of your hot water heater. This may block the heating element, which is in the base of the hot water heater. If it is blocked by this sediment, the water will not feel as hot as it once did. Remove the sediment from the base of the hot water heater and install a water softener to help improve the hard water in your home.

If your hot water heater has stopped supplying your home with hot water or if it feels as though your water is not as hot as it usually is, you may want to hire a professional water heater repair technician to make the necessary repairs for you in order to get your appliance to work properly again.

We really have to thank plumbers for the work that they do, since it allows us all to stay comfortable and do our business inside of our homes. Life has been transformed, in so many ways, by the plumbing profession. Join us in honoring plumbers by reading the articles on this website.
